What to wear...

Wardrobe considerations

Let's Get Organized

Take a step at a time...

Choose your outfit first. Make it easy on yourself by deciding what you would enjoy wearing, then coordinate the rest of your family’s wardrobe with yours. It can be something simply hanging in your closet or something new. Then raid everyone else’s closets before shopping. Mix it up by having some members of the family in dresses, others skirts, pants, etc.

Decide on a color palette.

No need to match perfectly, but simply stay within a color theme and general tone of color. Choose colors that coordinate with your wardrobe selection. Some of my favorite combinations are below.

Where will the images be displayed?

Consider where the images are going to hang or for what purpose will they be printed and shared? What colors would fit into the color theme of the room where they will be displayed? Is there a purposeful color of your printed material such as holiday cards?

Think about the season...

If you want non-seasonal images that can be utilized year-round, then avoid heavy coats, thick sweaters, boots, shorts, summer tops and sandals.

There's More

Timeless or Trendy?

Wardrobe classics are loved and stand the test of time. Trends come and go. If you do not plan to have a shoot every year or two, stick with the classics. Or, be prepared to enjoy looking back at the crazy tends you once enjoyed.

Things to leave behind...

Avoid wardrobe with neon bright colors, large logos, graphics, and busy or bold patterns. We want the viewer’s attention to go to your eyes and lovely smile, not be distracted by your attention-grabbing clothes.

Be comfortable!

A photo session should be a fun one. Make sure you can enjoy moving in your clothes and can sit comfortably. Certain fabrics move and flow with the body.

You be you!

Above all, do not worry about what you’re “supposed” to wear on a photo shoot. You already know what you like to wear and what compliments your body style. Be yourself.
